A team of volunteers from Falmouth are welcoming people and their pets to seek support from their new pet foodbank and community hub based on Grenville Road.
Launching on Saturday 23rd September with a fun open day, Pawsitive Pets is Falmouth’s pet foodbank and community hub. It is the brainchild of Nicola Congdon, an animal lover who also provides animal assisted therapy to care home patients in Cornwall. Nicola has seen the need for a space that welcomes the community, while providing much-needed support to those with pets and animals they may be struggling to feed or take care of, as the country continues to face the cost of living crisis. Items aren’t just limited to pet food; people can pickup dog harnesses and leads, pet toys, blankets and more.
Nicola said: “We’re covering any animal possible - rabbits, birds, reptiles, and we’ll have chicken feed too. While cats and dogs will probably be the animals we help the most, we will have the facilities to help all animals if needed.”
Pawsitive Pets began just before Covid-19, starting small helping mainly homeless people, but with the arrival of the pandemic, Nicola found she was helping more and more people, and needed some more space to be able to continue the support. She has teamed up with Blue Cross and Pets at Home Falmouth branch, so people are able to drop off donations while shopping for their own pet, to help the cause.
So what happens if you need some support from Pawsitive Pets? Simply contact Nicola or pop into the hub on Grenville Road, and you will be given a parcel with things that you may need for your pet. Nicola and the team are also trying to make sure they have a wide variety of pet food available for different dietary requirements.
There is no criteria to use Pawsitive Pets. The hub is open Monday to Friday, 11am-2pm, and also welcomes your generous donations.
