On the long stretch of road that runs through Penryn, you’ll find the colourful and uniquely-named Fish Factory Art Space.
A haven for artists and creative people in the Penryn and Falmouth area, Fish Factory allows people to rent the space to work on their projects. It also welcomes the community by hosting special events, art exhibitions, open mic nights and more - it’s a truly community-focused hub.
Fish Factory has been in the area for around ten years, started by Rose Hatcher and supported by Robin Burns who joined a few years later, but moved to its current location in Penryn five years ago, making it accessible to people in Falmouth, Penryn and the surrounding areas.
Walking into the art space, with music instrument shop ‘Defiance Music’ on your right, and following the steps up into the generous vegan cafe, where exhibitions take place, the Fish Factory Art Space is the perfect place to be if you’re a creative person, or someone who is passionate about the arts. Past the cafe, which serves fresh vegan dishes and great coffee each day, you will find the art studio space, photo studio and darkroom.
Fish Factory offers artists from Cornwall and further afield the opportunity to be their ‘resident artist’, with a desk in the art studio that allows them to work on their projects. The studio also offers desk space to local artists, or people simply needing somewhere to work for a while. A variety of workshops and events, from drums and pottery to zine making, take place at Fish Factory Art Space, offering something for everyone in the community.
In addition to the creative side of the space, Fish Factory also leaves free food from local farms and producers outside for people to take as they need.
