Borrow, don't buy!

In 2020, when a group of friends realised that borrowing was the new buying, Kernow Library of Things (KLOTH) was born and has been helping people in the Falmouth and Penryn communities ever since.

A simple, but hugely beneficial ethos, KLOTH believes that by sharing resources, repairing items instead of throwing away, and encouraging people to borrow rather than buying new, we can do great things for our community and for the environment.

KLOTH is similar to a normal library, but instead of borrowing books, for a small fee you can borrow household items, tools, leisure items, and more. Great for DIY projects, family holidays, parties, and other events, KLOTH is perfect for those times when you only need something once or twice. Not only can you save money and avoid the manufacture of unnecessary items, you can also save space in the home and stop items from spending most of the year getting dusty on a shelf or shoved to the back of that cupboard under the stairs!

Since they began, the team of volunteers who run KLOTH have raised funds to stock new items, attended events to create awareness of the positive environmental impacts of borrowing, and reached many people in the community who have benefitted from using the library.

You can sign up as a casual user for free, or join as an annual member to save money on each loan. It costs as little as £2 to borrow an item for a week, so the money you can save really is worth it. Individuals who are supported by a number of organisations locally can be referred for reduced membership and borrowing rates - speak to your support worker for more information.

To find out more about KLOTH, visit kloth.org.uk or pop into the library during their opening hours and chat to one of the friendly team.
